We can apply sustainability within our production process in 4 different areas:

What we do

In terms of procurement, we have the ability to purchase CO₂‑reduced steel from our steel producers, also known as the NEDCON decarb edition. This means that our customers have the opportunity to choose between standard steel or CO₂‑reduced steel. In NEDCON’s decarb edition quotation, the different CO₂‑reduced steel options are highlighted, along with the benefits of choosing the NEDCON decarb edition.

Optimized process

In order to be able to offer you NEDCON decarb edition, our various steel producers use an optimized production process. In the optimized production process, CO₂‑reduced steel is produced.

CO₂‑reduced steel, so called ‘NEDCON decarb edition’, has caused less CO₂ emission during its production from cradle to gate. So from the exploration of iron ore and other ingredients, the production of pig iron and processing to flat steel – in comparison to conventional process routes (Blast Furnace & Basic Oxygen Furnace). This reduction can be realized by the following options and also a combination of these options:

  • CO₂-optimized ingredients: For example, high-grade iron ore, a larger portion of scrap, and more HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron)
  • Switch to a different production process:
    • Electric Arc Furnaces: Using renewable electricity and scrap as main ingredients.
    • Using Green Hydrogen (H2): As a reduction ingredient instead of coal and coke.

The steps above and raw materials ensure that we can provide you with sustainably produced steel.

NEDCON decarb edition certificate and award

Customers who choose to do a project with NEDCON decarb edition will receive a certificate and award upon completion of the project. This certificate and award serve as proof of a warehouse built with NEDCON decarb edition. In addition, we offer to professionally portray the project with a photographer and cameraman. This way, you have the opportunity to share professional images with your own customers.
